Gathering of the weather enthusiasts and thunderstorm observers in Võru on 24 July 2021

On 24 July, a meeting of weather enthusiasts and thunderstorm observers, organized by the Estonian Meteorological Society, took place in Võru. Similar gatherings have already been held for 20 years.

The agenda included both interesting presentations and recognition of long-term voluntary contributors in the weather community. The presentations focused on coping with exceptional weather conditions.

EMS Young Scientist Awardee in 2020 was Velle Toll

The European Meteorological Society (EMS) Young Scientist Award 2020 was presented to Velle Toll, University of Tartu, Estonia, nominated with the publication: “Weak average liquid-cloud-water response to anthropogenic aerosols”, V. Toll, M. Christensen, J. Quaas, N. Bellouin, Nature (2019), https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-019-1423-9.

The Award Ceremony was arranged virtually, with Velle giving an award lecture. More information is available on the website of the EMS.
